Runner. Triathlete. Crossfitter. Chef. Health fanatic. Wife. Foodie. Student. Traveler. I may not do all of these things well, but I love doing them. I love experiencing everything that life brings my way and because of this, a healthy and active lifestyle has become increasingly important to me.
So what is the Paleo Diet? Before humans settled down and began farming, our Stone Age ancestors lived a hunter-gatherer lifestyle, eating wild animals and plants. Today, the Standard American Diet (SAD) is the extreme opposite of this, consisting of processed and refined foods, sugars, and trans fats. Food doesn’t even look like food anymore. It is packaged in cardboard and plastic, doused with chemicals so that it will last 10 years on your pantry shelf, and colored with yellow dye #5 to make it look appealing enough to eat. By 2030, it is estimated that 60% of Americans will be obese. The number of people with diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, and chronic fatigue are skyrocketing above the numbers in any other country. We are obviously doing something wrong, but luckily, we have the choice and the free will to change.
My choice is to follow a Paloelithic diet that includes a healthy variety of meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, roots, nuts, seeds, and oils. I am not a doctor or scientist who can prove the science behind the nutrition to you, I can only share with you the research of people much smarter than me who are showing the world that there are healthier ways of living. I hope that you will enjoy some of the recipes and experiences that I share. You don’t have to be a strict Paleo follower to enjoy the site, many of my closest friends are vegan! Just try to keep an open mind and a desire to live a healthy and happy lifestyle.
